For the past six months, we’ve let Netop customers take our new Netop Remote Control Portal for a spin. The Portal is a free add-on to existing customers that allows lightweight, go-anywhere remote access over the Internet.
We’ve talked to our customers and found out how they feel about it. As with any new feature, the reactions were broad – some customers found it was exactly what they need, others found it lacking features they desired. In both cases, customers found it an interesting way to enable fast, safe access to their devices from wherever the user was located.
We also wanted to learn more about how customers were using the Portal in their everyday work. And we found quite a diverse set of uses:
- Allowing 3rd parties to access devices without installing a desktop Guest
- Accessing work computers from home – wherever the user is, the Portal is accessible
- Moving from internal to external access in a secure fashion
- Easy collaboration by simply sharing a link, with no download or installation required
We are happy with the feedback we’ve received so far. We are glad the Portal is having a positive impact and we want to keep on helping our customers as much as we can.
So today we are improving the Netop Remote Control Portal by making it easier to use in terms of navigating to your users and devices. We are also adding the ability to create groups of devices.
We have also learned that having a Hostname for a device is often not enough – the device may be a server in a nearby building or your CEO’s desktop computer. It is always good to be able to create aliases for your devices – so we’ve added that capability.
We have also played a bit with the color scheme. It feels more “Netop” now and closer to our customers.
