Report: Security Concerns with Internet of Things Devices

A recently publicized research report by HP hp_reportconcluded that 70% of Internet of Things (IoT) devices are vulnerable to hacking. The report reviewed ten of the most popular devices - thermostats to home alarms - and uncovered that a significant number of the devices were exposed to vulnerabilities. Here are some of the report’s findings:

  • 80% of devices raise privacy concerns
  • 80% failed to require passwords of sufficient complexity and length
  • 70% did not encrypt communications to the internet and local network
